Beware of these 5 dangerous symptoms during pregnancy

You are pregnant? It is surely the best news you have ever received! The most normal thing is that the pregnancy passes without complications, but it is also important to know how to identify which are the most dangerous symptoms during pregnancy that alert you that something is wrong so you can go to the doctor. It may not be anything serious, but prevention is better when it comes to your life and that of your baby.

Pregnancy is a stage in which many changes take place, not only as a woman but also in the formation of the baby, and that entails added stress because a hurricane of emotions, concerns and doubts about the baby's health invades us.

It is difficult to determine a priori when something is going wrong in the pregnancy, and to know when to call the hospital or go directly to the health center. To help you, we have spoken with the gynecologist Lisette González, which has drawn up a list of some symptoms that must be taken into account during pregnancy. If you have any of these symptoms, we recommend you see a doctor.

1. Bleeding during pregnancy
Blood loss in pregnancy is a fairly common problem and a reason to go to the doctor, but it does not always have to mean that the pregnancy is not going well.

As explained Lisette GonzalezDuring pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, you may see a few trickles of blood or light bleeding in your underwear. In general, this light pounding should not be a cause for alarm, since it may be due to friction during sexual intercourse or from placing an egg treatment that the doctor ordered. However, if it is a matter of heavy bleeding, similar to that of menstruation, it is advisable to go immediately to the hospital.

In any case, to determine the cause, it is important to go to the gynecologist to have the relevant tests done, and to provide you with the necessary information so that you know the reason for the bleeding.

2. Abdominal pain in pregnant women
Abdominal pain in pregnancy is quite common and is often one of the first symptoms of pregnancy. The causes of this pain can be due to several changes that occur during pregnancy, such as the growth of the uterus and the child, which increases the tension in muscles, ligaments and internal organs. Therefore, you will always see punctures, cramps or discomfort in the ovarian area.

Abdominal pain and cramps can also be symptoms of complications during pregnancy. If you suffer from acute and persistent pain, which does not go away with paracetamol, a medical examination is needed to detect if it is due to a problem in the baby's gestation.

3. Nausea in pregnancy
One of the first pregnancy symptoms that many women experience is nausea and vomiting. In most cases, nausea disappears after the first trimester of pregnancy. Do not worry! These symptoms are very annoying, but they do not affect the baby in any way, unless vomiting occurs too frequently, and prevents you from retaining food. These extreme cases, which are rare, are a red flag to visit the doctor.

4. Fever during pregnancy
Throughout the pregnancy it is possible that the mother falls ill during pregnancy, due to a weakness in her defenses. This can lead to fever during pregnancy.

Fever is the body's defense mechanism to fight viruses and bacteria. But, you have to know how to differentiate between a low-grade fever, when the body temperature is between 37º and 37.5º, and a fever, higher than 38º. When we talk about low-grade fever, we refer to the dreaded tenths, which with a specific paracetamol or with natural methods can help you lower it: a warm shower, avoid covering yourself with blankets and drink a lot of fluids. If the fever is high and is accompanied by another symptom, such as vomiting, diarrhea or severe abdominal pain, it is advisable to see a doctor.

If you have noticed an increase in vaginal secretions, it is normal! Especially towards the end of the pregnancy. It is usually a whitish discharge, with little odor and a lot of liquid, which is produced by placental hormones and has the function of protecting the uterus from possible infections. Only if this discharge has a bad smell, causes itching or stinging, or another symptom with which you do not feel well, you should consult your gynecologist.

When a strong and unpleasant odor it is because the vaginal flora is altered. In other words, the inside of the vagina is covered by a layer of bacteria that creates unfavorable conditions for the entry of other organisms. Bacteria that are part of the vaginal flora, especially lactobacilli, maintain the acidic vaginal pH that prevents the growth of other germs. If this barrier is broken, it creates an ideal environment for infections, such as yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis, to multiply.

the best way to avoid these infections is by maintaining good hygiene of the vagina. First of all, always wear cotton underwear. It will become one of your best allies to prevent infections, since it is a more breathable fabric, especially in summer.

Second, the appearance of bacteria occurs much more in humid environments than in dry environments. For this reason, during menstruation, great care must be taken with the use of pads and tampons, because excessive use of these products can generate more humidity in the genital area, and be more prone to contracting an infection.

As for washing the female intimate area, the gynecologist recommends using specific soaps for genitals, as they are less aggressive for the vaginal flora and for the skin of the lips, which is as delicate as that of the face. Do not forget, something so basic but that can lead to some problems, always cleaning yourself from front to back.

It is also not good to abuse moisturizers or douches, especially during pregnancy. This can kill the vaginal flora, and thus the barrier that protects our vagina from the outside.

If you think that you have an infection During pregnancy, the first thing to do is consult a doctor or gynecologist to verify that it is an infection or chemical or contact irritation. Some women have a more sensitive area than others, and simply changing the soap can cause irritation, and even pregnancy itself.

These are some of the warning signs that can happen during pregnancy and before which we must be vigilant to avoid complications in the baby's development. They do not always have to indicate serious problems for your health and that of the baby, but when in doubt, it is better to go quickly to the hospital or a health center.
